When should I replace my brake pads? What is the minimum thickness?

First off, all brake pads are 4mm thick (to be very specific, they are 3.89mm to 3.99mm thick, typically). 

The backing plate is 2mm thick and the compound is 2mm thick. 

We suggest replacing brake pads when the compound is .5mm to 1mm thick.
